Set Up E-mail with Microsoft Outlook 2003 using POP3

Learn how to configure Microsoft Outlook 2003 for use with your 1&1 e-mail account using POP3.
Before you begin, you will need to have Outlook 2007 already installed on your computer andCreate an E-mail Account in Your 1&1 Package.
 
Please note:
1&1 suggests the use of IMAP protocol over POP3. You can find out why by reading the Difference Between POP3 and IMAP E-mail Accounts
 
Step 1
From your computer, click the Start menu and double-click the Control Panel icon.

If using Windows XP, double-click the Mail icon. Double-click the mail icon

If using Windows Vista or Windows 7, type mail into the search box at the top-right of the Control Panel window to quickly find the Mail icon. Then, double-click it. Search for Mail and double-click the icon

Click the E-mail Accounts button. Click E-mail Accounts

Select Add a new e-mail account and click the Next button. Select Add a new e-mail account and click Next

  • Enter Your Name and full E-mail Address in the appropriate text boxes.
  • For the Incoming mail server (POP3), enter pop.1and1.com and for the Outgoing mail server (SMTP), enter smtp.1and1.com.
  • Your User Name is your full e-mail address and your Password is the password that was chosen when setting up the e-mail account in the 1&1 Control Panel.
  • Check the box to Remember password if you do not wish to enter the password each time when accessing your e-mail account.
  • When you are complete, click the More Settings button.

In the new window that opens, click the Outgoing Server tab at the top.

Check the box for My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication and ensure that Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected. Click the Advanced tab.

  • Enter port 995 in the text box after Incoming server (POP3).
  • Check the box for This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)
  • Enter port 587 in the text box after Outgoing server (SMTP)
  • Check the box for This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)
  • Click the OK button when finished.

Click the Test Account Settings button to test the connection. Outlook should now be able to connect.Click Test Account Settings

If successful, click the Close button and continue.

If you are experiencing trouble with the connection, check your E-mail settings once again with the previous steps in this article. If the information is correct, try logging into the 1&1 webmail at https://email.1and1.com/ to make sure that the e-mail account is active and your are using the correct password. If you are unable to login to the 1&1 webmail, log in to the 1&1 Control Panel to make sure the e-mail account exists and update the e-mail account's password if necessary. Click the Next button to save the E-mail Settings and continue through setup.

Click the Close button to exit the Mail settings window. Click Close

You may now launch Outlook 2003 to access your newly added 1&1 e-mail account!
